The Spanish term “De Colores” translates as “of colors” or “all in colors”. Essentially, we use this term to describe the “many colors of God’s love”, which is also the main point of the Spanish song of the same name.

The popularity of the song originated from a group of people in Spain who were riding on a bus on the way back from a spiritual retreat weekend. The bus broke down, which forced these people to have to walk 20 miles to the nearest town. While on this long walk, they sang to pass the time. De Colores was a popular Spanish folk song, and they sang it over and over again as they went along. There are over 100 verses that are now known to exist today.

This verse is part of the main story that is the basis of the Walk to Emmaus. In this story, Luke talks about how Jesus appeared to two disciples and walked with them on the way from Jerusalem to Emmaus.

You can read the entire story for yourself, found at:
Luke 24:13-35.
